Co-chairs of the event

The event was co-chaired by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defense and Security Le Tan Toi.

At the 14th session on August 16, the National Assembly (N.A.) Standing Committee gave opinions and agreed on the need for a law on civil defense, which will create a unified and synchronized legal corridor for effective prevention and response to threats and disasters, contributing to ensuring security and safety for the country and people.

The discussion was held to clarify several key contents of the draft law to evaluate and adjust it in the time to come.

The discussion received 20 speeches delivered by generals, scientists, and representatives of several ministries and sectors.

Addressing the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong stressed that the civil-defense affairs have been gradually developed over the past years, contributing to completing the organization and implementation and meeting task requirement when disasters or incidents happened.

The content of the draft law is related to numerous regulations in the Constitution of Vietnam, and other laws. Therefore, the speeches at the discussion were significant to the work of the draft law’s editorial board, he added.

Speaking at the event, N.A. Deputy Chairman Tran Quang Phuong spoke highly of responsibilities of delegates in contributing opinions to built the draft law. He believed that the opinions will help the draft law’s editorial board adjust and complete the document before submitting to the Prime Minister to report to the N.A. Standing Committee in the next session.
