Defense-security knowledge provided for religious dignitaries and followers
PANO - The Government Committee for Religious Affairs, in association with the Standing Board of the Central Council for Defense-Security Education, on October 24 opened a training course to provide defense-security knowledge for nearly 100 religious dignitaries and followers, representatives from several religious organizations in provinces and cities in Military Region 2.
The event was chaired by Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and attended by Vu Chien Thang, head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs; Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Nguyen, Director of the Militia and Self-Defense Force (MSF), Head of the organizing panel.

Speaking at the introduction event, Thang stressed that the defense-security work has been comprehensively implemented across the country, with the involvement of senior leaders of the Party, State, Fatherland Front, Central and local organizations, dignitaries and followers. In addition, the work of providing defense-security knowledge for students in the national school system and religious schools has also achieved outstanding results. However, many religious dignitaries have yet to be provided with national defense knowledge.
The course aims to provide the trainees with the Party and State’s viewpoints and policies on defense and security, the fight against hostile forces’ “peaceful evolution”, the Party and State’s policies on religious issues, and President Ho Chi Minh’s thought of great unity of religions.
The trainees will study six important topics, including the Party and State’s viewpoints and policies on protecting national security and building of the people’s defense and people’s security postures; the Party and State’s standpoints and policies on ethnicity and religion in attachment to defense and security in the new period; the Party and State’s stands and policies on maintaining political security, culture and ideology and economic development in the current context; the fight against hostile forces’ “peaceful evolution” and riot schemes towards the Vietnamese revolutionary cause; certain issues on socio-economic development in combination with defense-security enhancement; and basic contents of the Law on Belief and Religion.
