General Phan Van Giang speaks at the event.

Delegates discussed and proposed solutions to maximize capacity, accelerate the construction and supplementation of military vessels and other weapons and technical equipment in order to meet mission requirements in the new situation.

They agreed that in recent years, the Party, State, Central Military Commission (CMC), and MND have paid due attention to safeguarding national maritime sovereignty and implemented comprehensive measures to strengthen defense and security coupled with marine economic development. Resources have been concentrated on procuring, building, and supplementing modern combat ships, patrol vessels, and auxiliary ships to equip forces, helping enhance the operational capability, combat readiness, and protection of national maritime sovereignty.

They assessed that the development of the defense industry in general and the shipbuilding sector in particular under the motto of “pro-activeness, self-reliance, dual-use, modernization” has achieved notable progress. It meets the requirements for equipping the military and ensuring readiness to respond to contingencies.

Attentively, the CMC and MND have directed the building and implementation of numerous projects to improve quality and synergy, provide equipment for forces performing patrol and combat-readiness missions in a timely manner, and build a strong whole people’s defense posture at sea to safeguard the national sovereignty over the sea and islands in combination with developing marine economy.

Concluding the working session, Gen. Giang highly praised the GDDI and relevant agencies and units for their great efforts, pro-activeness in grasping situational developments, and providing timely suggestions to the CMC and MND to realize the Politburo’s Resolution No.8 on accelerating the development of defense industry toward 2030 and subsequent years, achieving significant and breakthroughs results.

To meet future mission requirements, especially during the 2026-2030 period, the defense chief asked relevant agencies and units to continue embracing and effectively realizing higher-level resolutions, conclusions, programs, and plans on boosting defense industry development, making breakthroughs in science and technology, restructuring enterprises, and increasing investment to strengthen defense industry potential. He also requested them to pay attention to the MND’s plan to implement the Government’s action program for realizing the Politburo’s Resolution No.8 on defense industry development.
