The event was chaired by General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Minister of National Defense (MND).

At the meeting, leaders of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army briefed the defense minister and delegates on the regional and international situations and the military’s outcomes in military, defense, and military building work over the past time. Meanwhile, the MND’s functional agencies updated delegates on the results and progress of the building of MND-chaired draft law projects which will be submitted to the N.A. for consideration and approval.

Concluding the meeting, Gen. Giang emphasized the importance of the fifth session of the 15th N.A. He said that this session will discuss important contents related to the military and asked military N.A. deputies to responsibly contribute quality opinions to the session’s contents. 

The defense minister requested each deputy to study and carefully prepare their reports which must reflect their views and be in line with the CMC and MND’s guidelines. While joining the session and sidelines activities, military N.A. deputies should be exemplary delegates and strictly observe the N.A.’s rules and regulations of speech and keep military secrets, contributing to the success of the session.   

At the fifth session, which was officially opened on May 22 and is scheduled to conclude on June 23, the N.A. will discuss and approve eight draft laws and three resolutions and comment on nine draft laws, including such defense and security-related contents as the Civil Defense Law; the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on the People's Public Security; the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam; the Land Law (amended); the Housing Law (amended);  the Law on Water Resources (amended); the Law on Telecommunications (amended); the Law on management and use of defense works and military zones; the Law on Citizen Identification (amended); the Law on forces safeguarding security and order at the grassroots level.
