PANO - The Central Military Commission and Defense Ministry convened a conference in Hanoi on July 11 to review the implementation of defense and military tasks in the first half of 2016 and draw up directions for the second half.
The conference was chaired by Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich and participated by members of the Central Military Commission and representatives of agencies and units under the Defense Ministry. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the conference and made a keynote speech.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the national defense-security work has greatly contributed to political stability, social safety and order, economic development as well as social welfare and the country’s external relations over the past time.

He applauded the Vietnam People’s Army for its contributions to the success of the 12th National Party Congress and the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 tenure.
He stressed that against complex developments of the global economy, escalated regional tension, particularly unstable situation in the East Sea, the Vietnam People’s Army must strive to successfully fulfill assigned tasks, deserving the trust of the Party, State and people.
Under the chair of Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Defense Minister Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich, the conference concluded that under the Party leadership and the government’s direction, the Defense Ministry and its subordinate agencies and units have successfully fulfilled its role as a think-tank for the Party and State, and for Party organizations and local authorities at all levels. The military in general has actively coordinated with the police and security forces to promptly handle unexpected situations, and become a core force in defending the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, border security, airspace, sea and islands.
The leadership of Party organizations and the quality of officers and Party members have been continuously improved.
The military units have kept playing a significant role in disaster and post-war relief, search and rescue, and bomb and mine clearance. The Ministry of National Defense has well implemented external defense work, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
For the second half of this year, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense are determined, on the basis of the achievements obtained in the first half, to strive for better results in implementing all missions and consolidate all-people defense and security in every locality and the whole country.
Military units will continue combating crimes at sea and at borders, prepare forces and equipment for disaster control, search and rescue and forest fire prevention.
