Border troops respond to World Environment Day
PANO - The Political Department of the Vietnam Border Guard on June 5 instructed all border guard units to organize practical activities to protect the environment in response to the World Environment Day.
Accordingly, the units participated in cleaning beaches, planting mangrove forests, dredging sewers, tidying up the living environment, and instructing local people to practice the civilized life style and more.
Troops and local youths clean up the environment.
The campaign of the border guard units saw the participation of members of various departments, Party committees and unions in localities as well as a good number of youths, students and local people. It is expected that 55,000 tons of waste will be collected for disposal and livestock cages of 500 households will be moved further away from home.
These practical activities aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection and change behavior of fishermen in the coastal areas toward the marine environment while promoting their responsibility for cleaning the sea.
Earlier, the units also launched the "Cleaning the sea" campaign on June 3 and 4.
