The week-long event will see the competition of 365 media products of 130 military press and media units, including 162 reports, 64 documentaries, 20 special reports on military science and national defense education and 104 programs under the themes “Whole people’s defense” and “For sovereignty and security of the national border.”

Addressing the opening ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, Head of the festival’s steering board, stressed that the festival is to evaluate the quality of media products and programs and give military media workers opportunity to exchange experience.

The festival is necessary to help boost the efficiency of information and communications of the military press and media agencies, with a focus on improving the quality of programs on the Vietnam National Defense Television Channel, as well as the quality of military broadcasts on Vietnam and other local televisions, General Nghia added.

The Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics also emphasized that the event was to contribute to successfully implementing the resolutions adopted at the 12th National Party Congress and at the 10th Military Party Congress and the Politburo’s Directive No.05 on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals and lifestyle coupled with the campaign “Promoting tradition, devoting talent, deserving to be Uncle Ho’s soldiers”; and to promoting the dissemination of the two strategic missions of national construction and defense.
