A view of the talks

Senior Colonel Tran Cong Ung, the Vietnamese unit’s commanding officer, and Colonel Bouthbuathong, the Lao unit’s commanding officer in political affairs, co-chaired the talks which was under the direction of Major General Dinh Manh Phac, Second-in-Command of Military Region 2.

At the event, the two sides informed each other about the situation in socio-economy, culture, defense-security, and activities of the armed forces of each province as well as the cooperation outcomes of the two provinces. They also reported on the result of one-year implementation of contents in the coordination regulations and MoU on action plan signed in October last year.

Particularly, the Yen Bai provincial Military Command advised the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee to provide VND 4 billion for the building of a school in Xayabury province and yearly support the study of two children of troops of the Xayabury provincial Military Command in colleges in Yen Bai province.

In the spirit of special solidarity and friendship, mutual understanding and respect, the two sides agreed on future cooperation orientations.

Praising the twinning achievements of the two military commands over the past year, Maj. Gen. Dinh Manh Phac asked the two sides to continue embracing the viewpoint, policies, particularly foreign policy of the two countries’ Party, State, military, and people-to-people exchange; disseminating information about the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos; and accelerating coordination and mutual support across all fields.

The Military Region 2 leader also requested the two units to promote cooperation and twinning activities in an effective and practical manner, making them a highlight in the cooperation between Military Region 2 and Northern Lao provinces.

At the talks, the two commands signed the MoU on cooperation in 2024.
