Vietnamese field hospital in South Sudan starts operation
PANO – The Vietnamese medical personnel have received and treated patients as soon as it took over the duties and barracks of the level-two field hospital (L2FH) from their UK peers in Bentiu, South Sudan.

During the first two official working days, they received eight patients. Vietnamese doctors, under the close supervision of the director of the hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Duc Thanh, successfully conducted an operation on a patient with an acute appendicitis, who was also their first patient. Previously, they had examined the patient and concluded that she had had an acute appendicitis and needed an urgent surgery.
The patient is now recovering and will be transferred to the Mongolian level-one field hospital in Bentiu for treatment.
In addition, as authorized by the UNMISS Medical Office, an aeromedical evacuation team (AMET) of the Vietnamese L2FH successfully performed an airborne emergency case while safely flying the patient with a chronic respiratory distress syndrome by a UN helicopter to the capital city of Juba for further treatment.
