At the meeting, General Vinh extended the Vietnamese Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich’s best regards to General Ryamizard Ryacudu. General Vinh affirmed the bilateral security and defense cooperation issues that made up an important part of an earlier meeting between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joko Widodo.

For his part, General Ryamizard Ryacudu sent his thanks to his Vietnamese counterpart while warmly welcoming General Vinh during the courtesy call.

The two sides highly appreciated the time-honored relations and defense ties between the two countries. They expressed joy over the recent results of the bilateral defense cooperation, saying that the development of the Vietnam-Indonesia friendship serves as a firm foundation for cooperation in various fields, including in defense.

The two sides agreed to make more efforts to improve defense cooperation, focusing on the cooperation between their respective branches of the Navy, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard; cooperation in training processes; cooperation during UN peacekeeping operations and counterterrorism activities, and so much more. Vietnam and Indonesia both have sea borders which makes cooperation in maritime security, support for fishermen, sea search and rescue efforts should also be strengthened in the future.

The two defense officials then agreed that their respective ministries will sign a Statement on the Common Vision on Defense Cooperation between 2017-2020 during an upcoming official visit to Indonesia by the Vietnamese Defense Minister.
