Vietnamese coast guards exchange experience with Japanese peers
PANO - The Vietnam Coast Guard delegation, led by Senior Colonel Le Thanh Hai, Second-in-Command of Coast Guard Region 1, on October 5 visited Osaka Bay Vessel Management Center and SETTSU patrol vessel under the Japanese Coast Guard.
The delegation is on ship 8004 to visit Kobe city in Japanese prefecture of Hyogo.
At Osaka Bay Vessel Management Center, its second-in-command Kono Minoru introduced the center’s management, operation, and monitoring of waterway traffic in the bay area to the Vietnamese delegation.
The center is specialized in providing information to support and manage the traffic of ships passing through Osaka Bay with the aim of ensuring traffic safety for people and vehicles, while protecting the marine environment, offshore equipment and structures from incidents that may arise during operation in the bay.
In the afternoon the same day, Vietnamese coast guards visited SETTSU patrol vessel.
Measuring 105.4m in length, 14.6m in width, 29m in height, and 3,304 tons in weight, this ship can reach the maximum speed of 18 knots, and carry 50 crew-members. Its task is to patrol against piracy and armed robbery. In February this year, the ship visited and exchanged with the Vietnam coast guard force in Da Nang city.
Addressing the events, Senior Colonel Le Thanh Hai thanked the hosts for the thoughtful and friendly reception. He hoped that the visits to Osaka Bay Vessel Management Center and SETTSU patrol vessel will help Vietnamese coast guards gain more experience in ensuring safety and security at sea and upgrading capabilities in commanding and assigning ships to tasks. The visits were also a good chance for the two sides to learn experience in law enforcement at sea and boost cooperation and mutual understanding.
