At the event, General Tea Banh highly valued talk, which displayed the pro-activeness of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (MND) in responding to emerging security issues in the region and the world, especially the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cambodian Minister of Defense laid stress on the bilateral relations with Vietnam while expressing his thanks for the support of the Vietnamese MND and relevant agencies over the past time, particularly their experience sharing and medical supplies for the COVID-19 fight in Cambodia. He congratulated the Vietnamese MND for the successful organization of ASEAN military-defense meetings within the framework of Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020.
General Tea Banh also thanked the Vietnamese MND for their collaboration to successfully organize activities in commemoration of the 43rd anniversary of “the journey to demolish the Pol Pot genocidal regime” in Binh Phuoc province in June 2020. He stressed that it is a meaningful political event and the Cambodian Ministry of Defense will maintain it annually.
For his part, General Lich thanked the Cambodian Ministry of Defense and its minister General Tea Banh for their greetings to the Vietnamese MND on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He affirmed that Vietnam always attaches much importance to the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, stressing that the Vietnamese MND is willing to share experience with and support the COVID-19 fight of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense.
During the talk, the two officials expressed their delight at the cooperation results between the two defense ministries since the beginning of 2020. They stressed that the two sides effectively implemented their agreements amid the complicated situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also agreed with proposals of the two sides’ specialists on accelerating concrete cooperative sectors with suitable manners.
The two defense ministers agreed to continue implementing their reached agreements, particularly on reinforcing cooperation mechanisms such as the ministerial-level defense policy dialogue, border management, and COVID-19 prevention and control.
Additionally, the two sides expressed their mutual support at multilateral defense cooperation forums of ASEAN and other mechanisms that ASEAN plays a central role.
The Cambodian defense minister pledged to continue to support the Vietnamese MND during the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020, contributing to their successful organization of upcoming events such as the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces' Meeting (ACDFM), the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), and the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).
