During the video talks with General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director of the Cambodian Defense Ministry’s General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs and Director of the Department of International Cooperation, the two sides applauded outstanding achievements in bilateral defense cooperation in the past time. Both agreed that in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two Defense Ministries have made suitable adjustments to their defense cooperation programs.

The Vietnamese senior officer thanked the Cambodian Defense Ministry for its support and full participation in the initiatives and video conferences hosted by Vietnam in the framework of ASEAN Year 2020. He suggested the two sides continue to make thorough preparations for bilateral cooperation programs in the following years and next year. He also proposed organizing these activities in online forms.

For his part, the Cambodian general highly valued Vietnam’s responsive spirit and COVID-19 effective prevention and control. He took this chance to thank the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for providing Cambodian side with medical supplies.

During the talks, the two sides reached an agreement on sharing and supporting each other in disease prevention, backing each other at multilateral cooperation forums in the region and the world, as well as promoting cooperation between border guard forces.

During the talks between Major General Kenchan Nanthalangsy, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Lao Defense Ministry and Lieutenant General Vu Chien Thang, the two sides spoke highly of their good cooperation results amidst the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic.

General Thang hoped that the two sides will promote their coordination while ensuring disease prevention and control in the time ahead.

For his part, Major General Kenchan Nanthalangsy thanked Vietnam for its support and sharing experience in its COVID-19 fight. He promised to support Vietnam’s future activities in its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020, such as the seventh ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM-17) and related meetings in online platforms, ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM), ADSOM+, ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), and ADMM+ and more.
