At the talks, the ministers discussed regional security issues of shared concern and orientations for bilateral defense cooperative activities in the coming time.

They shared the view that the two countries’ defense cooperation is substantive, stable, and sustainable, and it is in line with the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation inked in 2010.

Minister Payne thanked the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for its support for Australia’s initiative to hold the ADMM+ annually, and asserted that Australia will continue contributing to the success of this important mechanism.

The relations between Vietnam and Australia and their defense ministries are growing. The two sides are carrying out many productive cooperative activities, such as visit exchange, dialogue and consultation, training, maritime security, anti-terrorism, information sharing and flight safety. The two countries have frequently consulted each other at multilateral forums and architectures, such as ADMM+, ARF, and EAS.
