At the conference, the two sides evaluated that over the past 75 years, the Vietnamese Military Medical University (MMU) has provided training for generations of Lao officers, thus contributing to the building and development of Laos’ military medical sector. Notably, many of them have become senior officials of the Party, State, and People’s Army of Laos.

In recent years, the two sides have well coordinated to actualize annual delegation exchange plan. In particular, the Vietnamese MMU has conducted surveys and provided information related to process and experience in management and tertiary and post-graduate education for Lao side, sent experts to help the Lao MMU build training programs and draft training regulations, and gave textbooks, documents, equipment, teaching aids and models to serve Laos’ teaching of basic medical subjects.

From 2017 to 2022, 67 Lao cadets were trained at the Vietnamese MMU. The unit also sent five delegations of experts to support the Lao MMU in carrying out contents in such training fields as military medicine, anatomy, parasites, embryology, physiology, pharmacology, military hygiene, and microbiology. 

Speaking at the conference, President of the Vietnamese MMU Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Kien emphasized that the collaboration between the two universities has contributed to fostering and consolidating the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos in general and between the two militaries in particular. It is an important basis for building the two universities into leading medical education establishments to train high-quality medical and pharmaceutical personnel to serve the national construction and defense cause and the development of military medicine, healthcare, and health education systems of the two countries.

For his part, President of the Lao MMU Major General Chansamone Mahavong deeply thanked the Vietnamese side for its support over the past time. Thanks to those, the Lao MMU has obtained encouraging achievements.

Major General Chansamone Mahavong hoped that the Vietnamese MMU would continue to provide support for and effectively cooperate with the Lao MMU in the fields of training and scientific research, facilitating it to become a prestigious educational and training establishment in Laos to train high-quality military medical staff to better take care of Lao troops and people.
