Vietnamese and Lao border protection forces enhance cooperation
PANO - The Chieng On, Chieng Tuong and Phieng Pan border posts under Vietnam’s Son La Provincial Border Guard Command and Border Guard Company 213 of Laos’ Houaphanh provincial Military Command co-held a conference on January 11 to review their border protection work in the second half of 2023.
Accordingly, both sides thoroughly grasped all contents of the cooperation agreement inked by the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Lao Border Military Department. In particular, they worked together to effectively implement the task of protecting and managing the shared borderline between Mai Son and Yen Chau districts (Son La province) and Xiengkhor district (Houaphanh province), contributing to building a peaceful, friendly and stable Vietnam-Laos border.

Meanwhile, the two sides pro-actively coordinated with each other to successfully organize talks, bilateral patrols, regular and irregular meetings to exchange information and situational developments while visiting, presenting gifts, and extending greetings to each other on the occasion of the 79th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army and the 48th anniversary of Laos’ National Day.
Also, they conducted dissemination activities to mobilize people along the shared borderline to strictly observe the Protocol on the borderline and the Agreement on the regulations on the management of the land border and border gates signed by the two governments.
They regularly exchanged information related to activities of different kinds of crimes, particularly drug-related crime, smuggling, and wildlife trafficking.

During the conference, the two sides agreed to promote law dissemination and education to raise awareness of people in border areas; boost the exchange of information and situational developments regarding border, border markers, crimes, national security; and regularly hold meetings to share experience and exchange situation in border protection and management work; among others.
