At the reception, the Vietnamese official emphasized that the bilateral defense cooperation between the US and Vietnam has recorded strong developments and there remain opportunities to reinforce ties in this field. The two militaries should continue discussion on contents and progress of cooperation in line with the situation of each country, particularly focusing on cooperation in addressing war and dioxin consequences and the returning of war mementos. These are meaningful activities in opening a better future for Vietnam-US bilateral defense cooperation in the coming time, he noted.

General Vinh and the US congressmen also shared their viewpoints on each country’s foreign and defense policies, bilateral defense cooperation potential and some regional and international issues of common concern.

* Earlier, General Vinh also received the Country Director in Vietnam of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Kim Jin-oh at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

At the meeting, General Vinh congratulated his guest for his position and hoped that Mr. Kim will actively contribute to developing the relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea in general and between the two countries’ militaries in particular.

He appreciated KOICA’s support and asked for more support from the agency for Vietnam’s socio-economic development. In addition, he also urged Korean partners to promote ties with the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in addressing war consequences.

For his part, Kim Jin-oh said that KOICA and the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam are also actively implementing the first project on surmounting the aftermath of war. He affirmed that he would try his best to ensure the project’s success and turn it into a symbol of the effective and long-term cooperation between his agency and the Vietnamese ministry.
