Vietnam, Thailand expand air defense cooperation
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister, received Commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Chaiyapruk Didyasarin at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense on November 16.
At the meeting, Gen. Giang noted that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand over the past years has grown strongly with practical outcomes, especially in delegation exchange, personnel training, air and naval force cooperation, thereby contributing to strengthening the friendship, trust and credibility between the two countries’ people and militaries.
He also highly appreciated the cooperation results between Vietnam’s Air Defense - Air Force Service and the Royal Thai Air Force, expressing his hope that the two forces will continue promoting their cooperation.
He affirmed that Vietnam backs Thailand in performing its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019 and expects to receive support from Thailand in 2020 when Vietnam undertake the role.
For his part, General Chaiyapruk said that his visit aims to expand cooperation between the air forces of Thailand and Vietnam.
He stressed that the cooperation between the two services has been enhanced, especially through the exchange of delegations and training.
The cooperative ties between the militaries of Thailand and Vietnam have also contributed to strengthening the ASEAN Political-Security Community, one of the key pillars of the ASEAN Community, he noted.
