Regarding bilateral defense relations, the two sides agreed to further improve the effectiveness of the defense policy dialogue mechanism, enhance cooperation fields in a more practical and effective manner based on the strengths and needs of the two countries.

At his meetings with US Under Secretary of State Andrea Thompson and the US Parliamentarian Group, the two sides expressed their satisfaction over the good results of overcoming war-left consequences in Vietnam over the past time, of which the Dioxin Contamination at Da Nang Airport Project has been completed while the other dioxin cleanup project in Bien Hoa airport was recently started.

General Vinh affirmed that overcoming war consequences is not only a humanitarian issue, but a motivation for the two countries to promote cooperation in other fields. Congratulating Vietnam on the successful deployment of its level-2 field hospital No.1 to South Sudan, US Deputy Secretary of State Andrea Thompson said that the United States wants to continue cooperating with Vietnam in preparing forces for UN peacekeeping operations.

At the meetings with Dutch Secretary of State for Defense Wim Geers, both sides expressed their hope to promote the bilateral defense cooperation, including defense industry, on the basis of good relations between the two countries.
