Answering the question about outstanding achievements gained by Vietnamese and Lao young border guard officers in task performance and building a shared borderline of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development over the past years, Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hai said that the Vietnamese and Lao young border guards have upheld their enthusiasm and vanguard spirit to fulfill all assigned missions in border areas.

In detail, the young border guard forces of the two countries have maintained bilateral patrols and promoted collaboration in border protection and management, and COVID-19 prevention and control work.

Meanwhile, the two sides have closely worked together to fight against different kinds of crimes, especially drug crime, smuggling and trade fraud, prevent illegal border crossings, and deal with arising problems in border areas in an effective and timely manner.

In addition, young officers have organized refresher courses and exchange programs to share experience and improve troops’ capabilities of border protection and management. Both sides have regularly conducted dissemination activities to encourage local people to strictly observe contents outlined in legal documents on land border signed by the two governments, to name but a few.

Also, Vietnamese border units have provided financial support for the Lao side to repair several villages in Laos and are taking care of 81 needy Lao students.

Concerning the question about the aim of this first Vietnam - Laos young border guard officer exchange program, Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hai stressed, the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Department of Border Guard under the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army co-hold the program to mark the Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, the 60th founding anniversary of Vietnam - Laos diplomatic ties and 45 years of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries.

The event consists of various activities, including a youth dialogue, cultural and artistic and sports exchange programs, a tree-planting ceremony, sports exchanges, and visits to cultural and historical sites in Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city, among others.

Also it contributes to educating young generations of the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in the past and now while helping enhance sentiment, political trust, and cooperation between the two countries’ border protection forces in general and young officers in particular.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hai went on to inform the reporter the key activities that the Vietnamese and Lao young border officers should focus on in the coming time.

First of all, the young officers should promote coordination in border protection and management, carry out bilateral patrols to prevent and handle violations of laws on national border.

Secondly, they should be a core force pioneering in fighting against plots of hostile forces of splitting the Vietnam - Laos great friendship and special solidarity, combating crimes in border areas, illegal exit and entry, to name but a few.

Officers in border posts, checkpoints, and companies should continue giving advice to higher levels and directly assign tasks to troops to exchange information and grasp regional situations. Therefore, they could resolve arising issues in border areas.

Additionally, coordination in organizing cultural, artistic, sports exchange activities between young officers of the two sides should be boosted during holidays, New Year festivals, and traditional days.

Last but not least, the two sides' officers should intensify information dissemination to raise people’s awareness of observing law and regulations outlined in legal documents on land border and related agreements while actively engaging in movements to denounce crimes and protect borderline, national landmarks, and projects at border gates, and more.

With the spirit of vanguard, creativeness, and enthusiasm, the colonel believed that the Vietnamese and Lao young border officers will uphold traditions of previous generations, tighten solidarity and promote collaboration to effectively fulfill their assignments, contributing to safeguarding territorial sovereignty and border security of the two countries and building the Vietnam - Laos borderline of peace, friendship, and mutual development.
