The meeting was co-chaired by Senior Colonel Vu Thanh Van, Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense, and Brigadier General Kustono, Assistant to the Deputy Commander of the Indonesia National Armed Forces.

The meeting was part of activities to prepare for the second Vietnam - Indonesia Defense Policy Dialogue scheduled to take place in October.
Addressing the meeting, Brigadier General Kustono extended his congratulation to Senior Colonel Vu Thanh Van on his appointment as Director of the Department of Foreign Relations, believing that the new leadership would make important contribution to further fostering defense cooperation between the two countries in the time to come.
He also underlined that the online meeting contributed to strengthening the Vietnam - Indonesia bilateral defense ties.
For his part, Senior Colonel Vu Thanh Van affirmed that he would create favorable conditions for the Indonesian side to promote defense cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Colonel Van added that despite the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fourth meeting demonstrated the flexibility and determination of the two sides in maintaining their regular exchange and defense cooperation.
Held for three times, the bilateral Joint Working Group mechanism has proven to be effective in intensifying defense cooperation between the two militaries, particularly in the areas of delegation exchange, maintaining mechanisms for cooperation, information sharing, defense industry, and mutual consultation on multilateral forums.
In the coming time, both sides will make recommendations to the leaders of the two defense ministries to continue paying attention to directing delegation exchange, especially high-level delegations, sharing views and building mutual trust.
Moreover, Vietnam and Indonesia will enhance the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms and focus on other fields such as training and education among services and arms, military medicine, especially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while supporting each other at multilateral mechanisms and forums.
