Vietnam ensures absolute safety for international delegations at ADMM Retreat
PANO – With effective measures and good preparations, Vietnam is confident to effectively prevent the acute respiratory disease caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to ensure safety for international delegates at the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Retreat in Hanoi.

The statement was made by a representative from the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defense at a meeting between the department and foreign defense attachés to Vietnam on February 17 in Hanoi.
The meeting aimed to update foreign defense attachés on Vietnam’s prevention of COVID-19 and roll out approaches to preventing the disease during the ADMM Retreat held from February 18 to 20.
A report delivered at the meeting concluded that since the first novel coronavirus-infected case in Vietnam was confirmed, the Vietnamese Government and the Vietnam People’s Army has taken drastic measures to prevent the disease. So far, Vietnam has reported 16 cases of COVID-19 infection, and seven of them have been cured and discharged from hospitals. Furthermore, Hanoi and military units reported no cases of COVID-19.
Speaking at the meeting, a representative of the Department of Foreign Relations affirmed that ensuring good medical services for delegates at the ADMM Retreat in Hanoi is the most important mission. Therefore, the Ministry of National Defense and relevant agencies and units prepared forces, facilities and detailed plans to cope with any emerging situations and organized exercises on ensuring medical services for delegates in different scenarios.
Regarding the prevention of COVID-2019, the Ministry of National Defense has taken a series of measures to control the disease. Accordingly, the ministry sent its officers to cooperate with civilian medical teams to check the body temperature of each delegate when they arrived at Noi Bai International Airport, updated them on the developments of the disease in Vietnam and equipped them with preventive measures. In addition, military units also sprayed antiviral chemicals at Melia Hotel, where the the ADMM Retreat is taking place, and in the buses that will be used to shuttle the delegates. They have also checked the body temperatures of all drivers and supporting staff.
During the event, military medical teams will regularly examine participants’ temperatures, so as to quickly discover those suspected of contracting COVID-19.
In addition, Vietnam’s Defense Ministry also pays attention to ensuring food hygiene and safety for the meeting, while military hospitals have prepared forces and facilities for emergency situations.
