Vietnam Coast Guard delegation pays courtesy call on Jakarta authorities

An overview of the meeting

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Ta Van Thong, and Vietnam’s Defense Attaché to Indonesia Senior Colonel Nguyen Tuan Duc joined the delegation.

At the meeting, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo expressed his delight at welcoming Sr. Col. Nguyen Tran Dong, the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation, and officers and crew members of Ship 8001 to Jakarta. He emphasized that the Vietnam Coast Guard delegation’s presence in Indonesia vividly demonstrated the increasingly close friendship between the two coast guard forces in particular, and between Jakarta authorities and people and their counterparts from localities of Vietnam in general. He noted that this contributed to promoting the comprehensive partnership between the two governments.

On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Col. Dong thanked the host for the warm and thoughtful reception and expressed his strong impression of the  development of Jakarta, the largest city in Indonesia with only 3% of the country’s population but contributing up to 20% to the country’s GDP.

The Vietnamese senior officer affirmed that the visit and exchange this time not only provides an opportunity for both sides to share professional expertise and enhance coordination capacity, but also helps Vietnamese coast guard officers and soldiers to gain a deeper understanding of Indonesia, its people and culture.

He added that in the context of increasingly complex regional maritime security developments, the visit opens up further opportunities for the two sides to strengthen cooperation, share experiences, and support each other in law enforcement and ensuring maritime security, order, and safety. These will help consolidate and strengthen the good cooperative ties between the two sides, laying a foundation for broader coordination in the future, for regional waters of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable cooperation.
