Vietnam, China conclude joint fishery patrol in Gulf of Tonkin
PANO – The Vietnam Coast Guard Command and its Chinese counterpart on April 26 concluded their joint fishery patrol in the shared fishing grounds in the Gulf of Tonkin, the first of 2018.
Two Vietnamese ships under the Coast Guard Region 1 Command, led by Senior Colonel Tran Van Tho, Deputy-Commander, Chief-of-Staff of Coast Guard Region 1, and two Chinese ships, headed by Mr. Liu Tianrong, Deputy-Chief of the Nanhai Division of the Chinese Coast Guard, joined the patrol.
During the three-day mission, they patrolled nine locations in the shared fishery grounds in the Gulf of Tonkin, following a course with a total length of 227 nautical miles, checked fishing boats operating in the shared fishing grounds, exchanged experiences in conducting assigned tasks, and practiced search and rescue at sea.
In addition, the Vietnamese delegation disseminated the Vietnamese laws on fishing at sea, and offered national flags and life jackets to fishermen.
At the review meeting, the heads of the two sides agreed that the joint patrol helped maintain order and security in the sea, and facilitate legal fishing activities of fishermen in the shared maritime area in the Gulf of Tonkin.
