An overview of the reception

At the reception, Gen. Thang congratulated Cambodia on obtaining important achievements over the past time, especially the victory of the Cambodian People’s Party at the election to the 7th Cambodian National Assembly in July 2023, the 5th Senate (the upper house) election in February 2024, and the 4th Election of Capital, provincial, municipal, district councils in May 2024. He hoped that under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party headed by President Hun Sen and the management of Prime Minister Hun Manet, Cambodia will achieve greater successes.

He underlined that defense and military cooperation between the two countries has been promoted over the past years with practical results, becoming an important pillar in relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, in many fields, such as delegation exchange, especially high-ranking delegations; maintaining cooperation mechanisms, especially the deputy ministerial-level Defense Policy Dialogue; cooperation in border protection and personnel training; disseminating information about the importance of the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity; and coordination in searching for and repatriating the remains of martyrs.

Hailing the cooperation achievements between the Institute for Defense Strategy of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, and the Cambodian Center for Military Strategy Studies, Gen. Thang requested that in the coming time, both sides should continue effectively implementing their memorandum of understanding on research cooperation, while sharing information and organizing strategic research training courses. He underscored that leaders of the Vietnamese General Staff will continue supporting and creating favorable conditions for the two agencies to strengthen their cooperation, contributing to further deepening bilateral defense cooperation.

For his part, Gen. Kim Vanna thanked leaders of the Vietnamese General Staff for receiving the Cambodian delegation, expressing his hope that both sides would further promote friendship between the two militaries and peoples, for peace and stability in the region.
