Accordingly, 50 scholarships, totally worth VND 100 million, were granted to poor students with good academic records in the locality, and ten breeding cows, totally worth VND 180 million, were offered to needy households in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province.

Addressing the event, Senior Colonel Hai noted that over the past years, the Vietnam Border Guard Command has made recommendations to the Ministry of National Defense to organize border defense friendship exchanges with bordering countries, so as to promote solidarity and cooperation as well as friendship exchange between the two militaries and peoples, thereby boosting political exchanges and contributing to the building of a borderline of peace solidarity, stability and development.
The Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange has been organized seven times so far. On these occasions, the Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam Border Guard Command gave many meaningful gifts to people living along the shared borderline, contributing to the infrastructure construction and local economic development.

During this year’s event, the Ministry of National Defense will hand over a friendship cultural house, worth VND 20 billion, to Ban Phiet village, Ban Phiet commune, Bao Thang district, Lao Cai province; 50 “Paving the way to school for children” scholarships and ten breeding cows to border people in Muong Khuong district, among others. In addition, a program will be also held to provide free health check-ups and medicines to 500-700 people in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province.

On the occasion, the Vietnam Border Guard Command directed 44 border provinces and cities to effectively implement models and programs, such as “Standing side by side with women in border areas,” presenting breeding cows to the poor, “Paving the way to school for children,” to name but a few, in order to support the border people to develop household economy and soon escape from poverty.
