The vessels, with 180 crewmembers aboard, were led by Captain Ikubo Seiji, Commander of the 13th Minesweeper Division under the JMSDF.

At the welcome ceremony

The welcome ceremony witnessed the participation of representatives of the Naval Region 3 Command, the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of National Defense, the Military Region 5 Command, the Da Nang Municipal authorities, and Japanese deputy defense attaché to Vietnam Lieutenant Colonel Yoshida Seiji.

During their stay, members of the two Japanese minesweeper vessels will take part in expertise exchange activities within the framework of the first maritime mine countermeasures program launched by the two defense ministries. In addition, they will pay courtesy calls to the leadership of the Da Nang Municipal People’s Committee, the Military Region 5 and Naval Region 3 Commands, and visit Naval Brigade 161 and several historical relic sites.

The visit will contribute to fostering cooperation between the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force as well as the bilateral defense ties between the two countries.
