Vietnam Coast Guard ship arrives in Japan
PANO - Ship CSB 8002 of Coast Guard Region 2 under the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) Command docked at Yokohama port on December 2, beginning its visit to Japan for an exchange with the Japan Coast Guard (JCG).
A grand ceremony to welcome the ship and a mission from the Vietnam Coast Guard Command on board took place at the port.

Present at the event were Major General Pham Kim Hau, Deputy Commander and Chief of the Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, and Major General Shimatani Kunihiro, Deputy Commander of the JCG’s 3rd Regional Coast Guard.

Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation in 2015, the Vietnamese and Japanese coast guard forces have organized a number of activities such as port calls, bilateral conferences, experience sharing, and refresher courses.

The visit to Japan this time by ship CSB 8002 aims to expand cooperation and friendship between the two maritime law enforcement forces.
Following the welcome ceremony, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Colonel Tran Xuan Luong, Deputy Commander and Chief of the Staff of Coast Guard Region 2, paid courtesy calls on leaders of the JCG’s 3rd Regional Coast Guard and Yokohama Office.

At the meetings, Colonel Luong expressed thanks for the Japanese Government’s assistances to improve the VCG’s capability over the past time, highly appreciated the ties between the two coast guard forces, and wished the JCG to further work with its Vietnamese counterparts in a practical and effective manner for the sake of security, safety, and freedom of navigation.
