Indian ship’s visit boosts Vietnam-India relations
PANO - INS Sahyadri, a multi-role frigate of the Indian Navy, headed by Naval Captain Ashwin Arvind, docked at Tien Sa port in the Central coastal city of Da Nang on October 29, starting its four-day visit to the city.
A solemn ceremony to welcome the ship with 317 crew-members on board was held at the port. Present at the event were representatives from the Naval Region 3 Command, the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defense, the Office of Military Region 5 Command, Da Nang city’s Border Guard and Military Commands, the Da Nang Department of External Affairs, and Indian Defense Attaché to Vietnam Colonel Varadan Kumar.

During their stay in Da Nang, the Indian naval officers will pay courtesy visits to the Military Region 5 Command, the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee, and the Naval Region 3 Command. The Indian crew-members will have a friendly volleyball match with their peers from the Naval Region 3 Command and visit several landmarks in the city and Quang Nam province.
Attentively, the Indian ship will host a professional expertise exchange with the participation of Indian and Vietnamese naval officers.
The visit, the second of its kind this year, aims to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and India in general and between the two militaries and navies in particular.
Later, in the afternoon, on receiving the commanding officers delegation from India, led by Naval Captain Ashwin Arvind, Major General Doan Kieu, Deputy Chief of the Military Region 5 Command, confirmed that the Vietnam-India friendship has developed fruitfully.

According to the Vietnamese general, India is now a comprehensive strategic partner of Vietnam. The Vietnamese people in general and armed forces of Military Region 5 in particular always remember the great support from the Government and people of India over the past time.
General Kieu hoped that the visit would contribute to enhancing mutual understanding and trust as well as tightening solidarity and promoting the time-honored relationship between Vietnam and India.
