The guided missile destroyer INS Delhi, which was built in India, and the multi-purpose stealth destroyer INS Satpura are equipped with modern weapons and equipment and capable of carrying multi-purpose helicopters.

The Indian senior officer stressed that though the two nations are thousands of miles apart, the oceans unite them in a common goal of peace and prosperity.

He recalled that last year, the two defense ministers signed a joint vision on defense cooperation to 2030. He emphasized that navy cooperation is a central part of the bilateral defense partnership which covers a wide range of activities, including human resource training and development, bilateral exercises, repair and maintenance, and logistic support to enhance capacity.

Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh shared that during the visit, the Indian delegation hopes to step up people-to-people connections, experience the rich culture of Vietnam, and meet with local partners, thereby strengthening the relations and mutual understanding between the two navies.

He added that the Indian Navy also looks forward to welcoming the Vietnamese naval ships and delegation to the upcoming MILAN multinational exercise in India in 2024.

During the four-day stay in the Central city of Da Nang, the Indian delegation will pay courtesy visits on the leaders of the municipal People’s Committee and the Military Region 5 Command, visit the Naval Region 3 Command, have a volleyball match with its peers from the Naval Region 3 Command.

Attentively, officers and crew-members on the two Indian warships will have a joint exercise at sea with their Naval Region 3 Command peers.

The visit of the Indian warships demonstrates the more practical and effective cooperation between the two navies, actively contributing to the development of the bilateral defense ties and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

In the afternoon the same day, the Indian delegation, accompanied by Indian defense attaché to Vietnam Colonel Dheeraj Kotwal, visited the Military Region 5 Command.

In the atmosphere of excitement and friendship, the hosts and guests reviewed important historical milestones in the traditional, time-honored relations and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India.

The India delegates stressed India’s support to Vietnam in the past struggles for national liberation and present national building and defense cause.

They highlighted the close coordination and mutual support between the two sides, especially at international and regional forums. They also spoke highly of the bilateral defense cooperation which has been constantly promoted, developed, reaped substantive results, and become an important pillar in the bilateral relationship.

At the meeting Major General Truong Hong Quang, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, and Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh hoped that the visit of the Indian naval delegation will help promote the relations and mutual understanding between the two militaries.
