Indian defense attaché affirms to contribute to promoting defense ties with Vietnam
PANO - Indian Colonel Dheeraj Kotwal confirmed that in his post, he will make important contribution to enhancing the traditional friendship, comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and bilateral defense relations.
The Indian defense attaché made the confirmation at a reception for him hosted by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien on May 5 at the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (MND)’s headquarters.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese general stressed that on the basis of the time-tested friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, the Vietnam - India defense cooperation has been constantly consolidated and boosted, reaping various practical outcomes.
He said that the Vietnamese MND highly appreciated the two sides’ authorized agencies’ effective implementation of cooperation fields based on the signed documents and agreements. He highlighted the flexibility and practicality in carrying out exchanges, mutual contacts, and cooperation mechanisms in such fields as personnel training, the Indian Government’s aid and credit package for the Vietnamese MND, cooperation between services and corps, defense industry sectors, U.N. peacekeeping, exchange between strategic research institutions, and mutual support and close coordination in multilateral forums.

Gen. Chien expressed his belief that Colonel Dheeraj Kotwal will work closely with the Vietnamese MND’s functional agencies, effectively realize the cooperation contents agreed by the two MND leaders according to the joint vision statement on defense partnership towards 2030. These contents focus on the official India visit by Vietnamese Defense Minister, cooperation between services and corps, defense industry, U.N. peacekeeping, cyber security, military medicine, maritime security, handover of used ships, among others.
For his part, the Indian defense attaché agreed with the host’s suggestions.
He emphasized that over the past years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India has developed comprehensively and practically in all fields with bilateral defense ties as one of the highlights.
