Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh (R) and U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Randall Schriver

Speaking highly of Vietnam-U.S. bilateral defense ties over the past years, Vinh asked the U.S. to continue boosting cooperation in areas with sound joint work, focusing on post-war recovery, including addressing Agent Orange/dioxin contamination, bombs and mines clearance, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, and experience sharing in the United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Schriver, who is on a working visit to Vietnam, promised to convey Deputy Minister Vinh’s suggestions to the U.S. Department of Defense at the earliest.

He expressed his belief that with joint efforts, bilateral defense ties will become more practical and effective.
