Gen. Cuong (L) at a visit to Laos' Embassy in Hanoi

Gen. Cuong, who is a member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee and a permanent member of the Central Military Commission, made that remark while visiting the Embassy of Laos in Hanoi on July 17 on the occasion of the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Friendship Solidarity Year 2017.

Gen. Cuong spoke highly of the importance of the year and the 55th anniversary of the two nations’ diplomatic ties (September 5) and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18).

He expressed his pleasure at the intensive development of the two countries’ time-honored relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

He hoped that the two armies’ fine ties would make vital contributions to reinforcing the trust and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples and to the combat against hostile forces’ schemes to ruin the two countries’ political systems and split the special ties between Vietnam and Laos.

The two armies’ fine connection would consolidate mutual trust and relations between the two countries’ Parties, governments and people, he added.

For his part, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane affirmed that the Lao Party, Government and people always attach importance to developing its special friendship with Vietnam in an intensive and effective manner.

He stressed that this year offers a chance for the two countries’ people, particularly younger generations, to learn more about the bilateral engagements over times.

He thanked the assistance of the Vietnam People’s Army to its Lao counterpart in the past struggle for national liberation as well as the current development.

He hoped to work closer with the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to reinforce the bilateral relations.
