Defense leader receives new Cambodian military attaché to Vietnam
PANO – Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien received Major General Leang Sovannara, who has taken on duty as Cambodian Military Attaché to Vietnam, on March 27, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
At the meeting, Gen. Chien congratulated Gen. Leang Sovannara on being appointed Cambodian Military Attaché to Vietnam and emphasized that the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia have been constantly strengthened and developed and brought about practical benefits to both countries.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed his delight at the outcomes of Vietnam-Cambodia defense cooperation over the past time, especially in the fields of delegation exchange, human resource training, and dissemination of the bilateral relationship, border management and protection, collection and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who laid down their lives in Cambodia while conducting international duty in the country. Notably, in December 2023, the two defense ministries coordinated with the Lao Ministry of Defense to successfully organize the first Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange.
The host expressed his hope that the Cambodian military attaché will coordinate closely with functional agencies of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to continue to effectively implement cooperation contents inked by the two sides, especially in delegation exchange, human resources training, war legacy settlement, U.N. peacekeeping operations, and mutual support at multilateral forums. Gen Chien expressed his belief that during his term of office, Maj. Gen. Leang Sovannara will bring into play the results achieved by his predecessor and make new contribution to further promoting the development of bilateral defense cooperation.

For his part, the Cambodian diplomat expressed his joy at the outcomes of the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship in general and bilateral defense cooperation in particular. He affirmed that in his position he will strive to contribute to the effective implementation of Vietnam-Cambodia defense cooperation contents.
