At the talk, General Cuong congratulated Japan for having the new Prime Minister and cabinet, in which Mr. Kishi Nobuo continuously serves as Minister of Defense. He affirmed that the talk provides a great opportunity for the two countries to discuss issues of mutual concern and propose measures to further boost the bilateral defense ties in a more substantive manner, contributing to deepening the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership.

In turn, General Koji stressed the significance and the development of the Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation over the past time.

They highly valued the outcomes of the official visit of the Japanese Minister of Defense to Vietnam last September, reaffirming that the two defense ministers had practical discussions to agree on orientations for the bilateral cooperation in the time to come.

They consented to enhance cooperation in several fields such as delegation exchange, collaboration among arms and services, U.N. peacekeeping operations, defense industry, military medicine, cyber security, and mutual support at multilateral forums.

At the event, General Cuong stated that Vietnam supports the maintenance of peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, and the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982).

Vietnam welcomes and supports Japan’s initiatives and positive contribution to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
