At the ceremony, representatives of Japanese functional agencies handed over dioxin and environmental analysis equipment to the Chemical Corps, including a laboratory equipped with 25 systems for dioxin and environmental analysis.

Addressing the ceremony, General Chien thanked the Japanese Government for providing a modern dioxin analysis equipment. This meaningful support contributes to Vietnam’s efforts in addressing the consequences of dioxin contamination and protecting the environment, showing the solidarity and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan following the elevation of the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world.
It also helps Vietnam accelerate its efforts to achieve the objectives and requirements outlined in the national plan for addressing dioxin contamination in Vietnam during the 2021-2030 period.

Over the past years, the Party, State, government, military, and the Office of the National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-War UXO and Toxic Chemical Consequences have attached much importance to addressing the war-left aftermath of toxic chemicals via effective measures. Accordingly, Vietnam has received support from various countries, particularly the U.S. and Japan.
Vietnam has effectively used equipment provided by different countries in addressing the dioxin contamination in Vietnam, contributing to protecting the people’s health and promoting socio-economic development.

* Earlier, General Chien received Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki. During the meeting, the deputy defense minister highly appreciated the cooperation outcomes between the two countries over the past years and expressed his hope that both countries would continue effectively implementing cooperation programs and projects.
In the field of addressing dioxin contamination, Vietnam hopes Japan will develop specific and effective cooperation initiatives, particularly in implementing research, training, and dioxin remediation programs in Vietnam.
* On the same day, General Chien together with the delegation of the Ministry of National Defense and leaders of the Naval Service visited and inspected combat readiness status and extended Tet greetings to troops of Saigon Newport Corporation.
During the inspection, General Chien hailed the unit’s achievements in 2024, and sent Tet greetings to the unit’s troops and staff. He requested the corporation to strictly implement resolutions and directives of the Party, effectively exploit the potential of the maritime economy, pay due attention to troops’ living standards and ensure a safe and economical Tet holiday for them, while seriously maintaining combat readiness, among others.
