At the meeting, General Nam briefed the US diplomat on outcomes of the project to help detoxify the hot-spot of dioxin in Da Nang airport and affirmed that the project is nearly completed, marking a significant milestone in the Vietnam-US relations and returning a cleaner and safer environment to local people.
The project in Da Nang airport, jointly carried out by the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has so far cleaned up an estimated 90,000 cubic meters of dioxin-contaminated soil and mud, and has handed over nearly 19ha of treated soil for the expansion of Da Nang airport.
The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the USAID are expected to complete the project by mid-2018.
