PANO – The Ministry of Nature Resources and Environment in association with the United Nations Development Program and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has announced the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) that Vietnam submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat in September 30th.

Deputy Minister of Nature Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the efforts of relevant agencies and hoped that they should prepare for carrying out the INDC in the coming time.

By 2030, Vietnam commits to reducing 8 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions a year and can raise the figure to 25 per cent if it receives international assistance. Besides, the country will implement other activities to raise climate change adaptation capacity and contribute to reducing greenhouse gases.

The Vietnam's INDC provides preliminary information on intended contributions until 2030. The emission reduction component consists of conditional and unconditional contributions. Unconditional contributions are activities implemented with national resources, while conditional contributions are those conducted with financial, technological, and capacity building support from the international community. Meanwhile, the biggest contribution to mitigating emissions and adapting climate change focuses on energy, transport, agriculture, waste, water resource, and forestry.

As one of the world's most vulnerable countries, Vietnam has been implementing many policies in response to climate change.
