PANO – Denmark financed US$42 million to help eliminate hunger and alleviate poverty among ethnic minority groups in the five provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien.
This was announced at the conference to review the project, “Agriculture and Rural Development Sector Programme Support in the 2007-2013 period”, jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Danish Embassy in Vietnam on December 16th.
The project aimed to eliminate hunger and alleviate poverty in rural areas through developing sustainable agricultural production in rural areas.
John Nielsen, the Danish Ambassador to Vietnam, said that over 1 million farmers in these provinces have benefited from the project activities and the poverty rate was reduced to 10-12% compared to 25% in 2007.
At the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development presented the Insignia for the cause of agricultural and rural development to Ambassador John Nielsen.
