Mai also proposed several initiatives, taking advantage of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership to promote investment and to strengthen education and training, tourism and health relations between the two countries.
She hoped that the two sides will support each other’s viewpoints at multilateral forums, and that the Canadian side will support Vietnam’s run for a non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 term, while Vietnam will in return back Canada’s candidacy for the council’s membership in the next term.
During the visit to Canada, Maiheld talks with leaders of the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist), visited McGill University and had a working session with representatives of some universities in Quebec.
At the talks, the two sides exchanged some issues of global concern, especially the East Sea (South China Sea) issue, and reached high consensus on the need to maintain regional peace and stability on the basis of international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, ensure freedom, security and safety of maritime and aviation in the region, and fully implement diplomatic and legal process.
On the occasion, the delegation met with overseas Vietnamese in Canada.
