On display at Vietnam’s booth are the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA)’s typical items, images and video clips featuring creativity and uniqueness of the VPA in the national resistance wars against foreign invaders as well as the VPA’s development and achievements in peacetime. Especially, the VPA’s items such as kit-bags, bucket hats, furniture, kitchen tools, and teapots made from enemy aircraft wreckage and rubber sandals help international friends learn more about the heroic tradition of the VPA.

The booth has always attracted numerous visitors, including special guests like the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia. In a visit to the booth, the ambassador silently picked up a leaflet in English highlighting the image of Late President Ho Chi Minh and attentively read all information on it. He later posed in front of the portrait of Late President Ho Chi Minh for photos with high respect for the Vietnamese great leader.

Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka said that right after entering the Friendship House, he was attracted by the “Vietnam Corner” highlighted by a red flag with the yellow star in the center and the photo of late Vietnamese leader President Ho Chi Minh, who he deeply admired.

“I immediately walked to the Vietnam corner. Vietnam, as I know, has bravely struggled against foreign invaders,” the ambassador said.

The Sri Lankan diplomat named various famous Vietnamese leaders, such as President Ho Chi Minh, Secretary General Le Duan and General Vo Nguyen Giap. He called them great leaders who led the Vietnamese to final victories in the wars against foreign invaders.

“Vietnam has sacrificed itself and suffered more losses than any countries in the world. The Vietnam People’s Army conducted whole-people warfare to defeat invading powers. It is my great honor to see images at Vietnam’s booth,” he said to a reporter of the Vietnam People’s Army.

The special guest of the “Vietnam Corner” recalled his impression on his Vietnam visit in November 2009, during which he visited the Independence Palace in Ho Chi Minh City which “witnessed the historic victory of Vietnam on April 30, 1975.” Since that reunification day, Vietnam has made outstanding achievements in its national reconstruction cause.

Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka said that the Vietnamese people have realized Late President Ho Chi Minh’s wish of building a richer and more beautiful Vietnam.

He expressed his deep impression of Vietnam’s high economic growth rate, its impressive attraction of more foreign investors, and its promising economic prospect and prosperity.

He also mentioned places in Vietnam he had visited before like the Cu Chi Tunnels and  the War Remnants Museum and was happy when eye-witnessing great socio-economic fruits of Vietnam.

Regarding the Dien Bien Phu and the “Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air” victories, the Sri Lankan Ambassador underlined that those victories are of great significance to the history of the world and to the oppressed peoples in the world. The victory of Vietnam showed that a small country under the sound leadership of talented leaders could win countries with the most powerful militaries.
