The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan made the above confirmation during virtual talks with Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue on June 21.

During the talks, both leaders expressed their delight at the strong development of the Vietnam - Japan extensive strategic partnership, contributing to peace and prosperity in Asia. They highlighted the significance of visits of senior leaders and officials at all levels, including Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide’s visit to Vietnam last year - his first overseas destination after taking office, as well as of the phone talks between the Japanese PM and Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh from March to May this year.

They also emphasized that both countries have maintained all-level exchanges and boosted economic, trade and investment ties despite COVID-19, contributing to the economic recovery of each country and of the region and the world.

NA Chairman Hue reaffirmed that Vietnam has always considered Japan an extensive strategic and long-term partner of top importance.

He voiced his support for Japan to promote its role as a major power and to positively contribute to regional and global peace and development.

The Vietnamese top legislator also took this chance to thank the parliament, government and people of Japan for sending 1 million vaccine doses to Vietnam to support the country in realizing its vaccine strategy.

For his part, the Japanese official thanked Vietnam for presenting medical masks last year when Japan faced numerous difficulties and a shortage of medical supplies to cope with COVID-19. He also reported that all Japanese people will be vaccinated by November of this year.

He stressed that Japan will closely work with international mechanisms and organizations, such as the WHO, the UN, and G7 countries to offer vaccines to countries all around the world.

Regarding economic cooperation, Tadamori expressed thanks to Vietnam for assisting Japanese businesses doing business in the country.

NA Chairman Hue said he hopes that the two sides will boost economic connectivity on the basis of the joint statement issued during Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to Japan in 2015. He also expressed his hope that Japan will continue to bolster the two countries’ coordination in labor development.

In terms of the cooperation between the two legislatures, the two sides emphasized the need to increase exchanges between them along with the current exchanges between the two governments and peoples. Hue suggested the two sides exchange experience to help Vietnam build a stable legal system and create a favorable environment for domestic and international investors, including those from Japan, to develop strongly.

Also at the talks, the two sides agreed to boost cooperation between the two countries’ parliamentarians, including the young ones, female parliamentarians and friendship parliamentarian groups.

On international issues, they highly appreciated ASEAN’s central role in settling regional and global issues. Both underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, maritime and aviation safety and freedom in the East Sea (internationally South China Sea), abiding by international law and settling disputes in a peaceful manner in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also spoke highly of ASEAN’s efforts in dealing with the crisis in Myanmar with the “Five-point consensus”.
