The municipal official made the statement while receiving a delegation of Japanese parliamentarians led by Ryu Shionoya, President of the Japan-Mekong Parliamentary Friendship Association.

At the meeting, Nhan noted that many visits by high-ranking officials have been exchanged recently, contributing to the Vietnam-Japan Strategic Partnership.

He took the occasion to extend his sympathies to his guest for the losses caused by recent natural disasters in Japan, saying that Vietnam and Japan share many similarities, both in terms of culture and impact of climate change.

In addition to education and training, human resources development in nursing also has room for cooperation. The two sides should foster collaboration in foreign language and technical training, as well as promotion programs for laborers, Nhan added.

In response, Ryu Shionoya said that this visit by Japanese parliamentarians to Vietnam aimed to enhance multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam and other countries in the Mekong region.

He said that Japan highly values Vietnam’s potential and role in the Mekong region and ASEAN, and wishes to tighten its friendship with Vietnam, contributing to regional stability and socio-economic development.

Lauding the active development of Ho Chi Minh City, the guest vowed that he will further promote cooperation programs between the city and Japan, especially in trade, investment, education, and training.

At the meeting, the municipal Secretary and the Japanese parliamentarians discussed the important role of female parliamentarians, healthcare, education and training, and human resources quality and improvement, among others.

Japan is currently the third biggest trade partner and the largest foreign investor of Ho Chi Minh City, with about 1,000 projects totaling USD 4 billion. The city has set up relations with seven localities of Japan and organized numerous cooperation activities with the country.
