The statement was made by Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Pham Duc Hai at a ceremony to mark King's Day (Koningsdag) of the Netherlands (April 27), held by the country’s Consulate General in the city on April 25.

Congratulating the country on its national day, Hai expressed his delight at strong development in the two nations’ relations, which was lifted to a comprehensive partnership level in earlier this month.

He stressed that his city is one of the localities leading the country in carrying out cooperation activities with the Netherlands.

Two-way trade hit 1.5 billion USD last year. The Netherlands is running 135 investment projects totalling 1.8 billion USD, ranking 8th out of 105 nations and territories pouring capital into the city. The two sides have also signed collaboration agreements in flooding prevention, water management, climate change response, urban planning and high technology.

Dutch Consul General Carel Richter also showed his delight at growing Netherlands-Vietnam relations.

He stated that the Netherlands is currently Vietnam’s second largest trade partner and its biggest investor in Europe with a total registered investment of over 7 billion USD.

The Netherlands considers Vietnam as one of its 10 leading economic partners, he added.
