At the Vietnamese Embassy in China, President To Lam shook hands, inquired after each staff and overseas Vietnamese and apologized for the delay, as the plane landed one hour later than scheduled. The calm, friendly and close demeanor of the Party and State leader made many people present that day feel that the meeting was like a warm reunion of a large family.

Starting the meeting, the Party chief and State leader expressed his joy at having the opportunity to meet and have an intimate dinner with the embassy staff, representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community, Vietnamese students in China.

Having heard about the embassy’s outcomes in various working aspects with respect and recognition of the host country, delivered by Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai, the leader felt proud and highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in cultivating the friendship between the two parties and two peoples. He was delighted at these achievements and hoped that the embassy staff and the Vietnamese community in China would always exert efforts and strive in diplomatic work to contribute to strengthening mutual trust and promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries.

In response to the close, friendly sentiments and attention of many Vietnamese in China, the Party and State leader shared that before arriving in Beijing, he had many meaningful activities in Guangdong, including the meetings with the Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and representatives of Chinese friendship organizations and the visit to martyr Pham Hong Thai's tomb and the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League relic site. These activities took place at a very special time, right on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's departure from Moscow to Guangzhou as a representative of the Communist International for revolutionary activities. The locality witnessed President Ho Chi Minh's glorious years, and the establishment of the close Vietnam-China relationship, comradeship and brotherhood.

In a cozy atmosphere and in front of a large number of the embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in China, Party General Secretary and President To Lam recalled the time-honored relations between the two parties, peoples, including the activities of old revolutionaries, from the time when there was no Party until after the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) was established and led the country. With that spirit, Vietnam always attaches importance to and gives top priority to developing relations with China.

Leader To Lam said that his first state visit to China in his new position was to discuss with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and key Chinese leaders about measures to continue to deepen and elevate the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, to build a Vietnam-China Community with shared future that carries strategic meaning, and to meet the interests of the two countries’ people, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Party General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider Vietnamese communities abroad, including those in China, an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc. He emphasized that the State provides all necessary support for Vietnamese living abroad. He asked the Vietnamese Embassy in China to continue its effective implementation of existing cooperation mechanisms and propose new cooperation mechanisms which are suitable to specific conditions of each country, bringing benefits to both countries while adhering to international law, for peace and development. He also requested it to strengthen the cooperative ties between the two countries, and promote people-to-people exchanges.

The Party and State leader expressed his hope that the Vietnamese community in China would further promote the spirit of solidarity, mutual support for development; strive to rise up, integrate actively, comply with the law and contribute to the development of the host country; always look towards the homeland, pro-actively make practical and effective contribution to the national construction and development cause; and be a bridge for the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.
