The city administration has ordered districts and relevant agencies to close down slaughterhouses in Districts 9 and Can Gio that are violating pollution standards.
According to the city’s Animal Health Department, 10 slaughterhouses in Districts 9 and Can Gio have already been shut down.
Under the city’s plan, 32 slaughterhouses in the city have been forced to move from residential areas. Construction of new sanitary slaughterhouses has begun as well.
The National Health Department on July 9 said the incidents of bird flu had reoccured in the northern province of Ninh Binh.
Local veterinarians immediately culled infected poultry and disinfected the affected area.
The government reports that bird flu still exists in 10 cities and provinces.
Animal health officials have continued warning people in the Mekong Delta about the risk of widespread bird flu outbreaks.
Three localities in the region including Dong Thap, Can Tho and Ca Mau have been struck and re-struck by the disease in the last two months.
