Binh Thuan Province is actively preparing to export dragon fruit to Yunnan, China, according to the Binh Thuan Provincial Trade and Industry Department.
Local officials said that Yunnan is a new potential market and that the need for Vietnamese dragon fruit is high not only in Western markets but also in Asia.
“Exporting dragon fruit to Asian markets will save a large part of the transportation and preservation costs,” said a local official.
In fact, Binh Thuan dragon fruit has long been present in the Chinese market and a large amount of the fruit is traded across the borderline between the two countries every year.
“We will re-organise the local dragon fruit farming and grant certificates to the plantations that meet the standards for exports,” he said.
Under the dragon fruit export programme, the Province has planned 700 ha to plant standard dragon fruit for exports.
Binh Thuan is one of Vietnam’s large dragon fruit farming localities with 16,400 ha of dragon fruit plantations and its dragon fruit has now been exported to 14 countries across the world, including the USA and South Korea.
