This information was announced at a recently held conference to review the group’s task performance last year.

Last year, in spite of global changes in all fields, Viettel still enjoyed growth in all of its 11 markets, with a total turnover of more than VND 264 trillion, up by 4.4 percent against the previous year and reaching 102.4 percent of the plan set for the year.

Attentively, valued at USD 5.8 billion, the Vietnamese telecoms giant ranks first in Southeast Asia, and 9th in Asia. According to Brand Finance, a London-based branded business valuation consultancy, Viettel was the telecom operator with the best brand growth index in the world.

Also in 2020, Viettel became Vietnam’s largest fixed broadband service provider with 41.8 percent of market share. It upheld its leading position in mobile service provision with 54.2 percent of the market share.

The group successfully manufactured and piloted 5G services in Vietnam, making Vietnam, one of the world’s first six countries to master 5G technology. In addition, the group developed various technological solutions and core technologies to deal with social issues. Notably, it mastered 62 core technologies, registered 97 patents, including three granted exclusively in the U.S. The revenue from its production of civil products reached about VND 1.5 trillion, a 104% increase compared to 2019.

Regarding the group’s development orientations in this year and following years, Major General Le Dang Dung, Acting Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group confirmed that Viettel targets to take the lead in creating a digital society. The group has developed itself into a digital service provider, focusing on six key areas, namely digital infrastructure, digital solutions, digital content, digital finance, cyber security, and hi-tech industry.

Dung added that this year, Viettel will do its utmost to make the most effective contributions to digitizing society - a key goal set by the government in national socio-economic development.
