Viettel is highly appreciated for efforts in improving education quality, one of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The school internet initiative, a non-profit effort launched in 2008, aims to provide internet connectivity to all educational institutions in Vietnam. To date, the program has provided free internet for over 46,000 educational institutions across all 63 provinces in Vietnam and more than 10 countries, particularly in rural and remote areas.

With an investment of approximately VND 2 trillion over the past 16 years, Viettel has developed a digital infrastructure supporting education, including transmission networks, data processing infrastructure, information security solutions, and connectivity devices for schools.

Viettel is the only Vietnamese company on this list and one of the eight Asian enterprises operating in retail, e-commerce, energy, and agriculture sectors. Viettel also stands as the sole telecommunications company featured in this year’s ranking.

Viettel’s Chairman and General Director Major General Tao Duc Thang said that with a mission of universalizing internet access, Viettel connects all schools with ultra-broadband fiber optics, enabling a surge in educational applications. Apart from providing infrastructure, Viettel is committed to researching and developing technology for the education sector, offering applications, building a national database for education, and deploying electronic education systems, including online learning resources and teaching platforms, among others.

Over the past decade, many of the world’s largest technology companies, such as Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, Nvidia, and Tencent have been honored by the magazine. Companies on this list are highly valued for their pioneering roles in tackling major global issues, including climate change, inequality, and public health.
