This fiber optic cable network, which is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022, will be an Asia direct cable (ADC). When it is operational, it will become Vietnam’s largest submarine fiber optic cable network with its bandwidth three times larger than the current APG network.
According to Viettel, the ADC will consist of multiple fiber optic cables and have a capacity of 140 Tbps, which can transit big data at a high speed between Southeast and East Asian countries.
With its large bandwidth, the ADC can support the development of 5G technologies, cloud computing, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence (AI). It will also support various connections in the region.
Deputy Director General of Viettel Business Solutions Corporation Doan Dai Phong announced that with its investment in the ADC, Viettel continues its mission of connecting Vietnam to the rest of the world via its expanding networks. On the other hand, the ADC will also help Vietnam step up its digital transformation and building of a digital economy and society, while meeting the increasing demand for fast internet connections.
The ADC is the fifth submarine fiber optic cable system that Viettel has invested in. According to the group, Viettel plans to build the ADC termination station in Quy Nhon.
